Chocolate Cake

A rich and moist chocolate cake that’s easy to make at home. Perfect for birthdays, celebrations, or a weekend treat, this cake has a soft crumb, deep chocolate flavor, and can be decorated with frosting, ganache, or berries.

Ingredients
  

Chocolate Sponge

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar (250ml)
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil (125ml) sunflower
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup cake flour (250ml)
  • 10 ml baking powder
  • 5 ml vanilla essence
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Buttercream

  • 200 g butter
  • 2 cups icing sugar (500ml)
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder (125ml)
  • 3/4 dark chocolate chips (melted)

Instructions
 

Chocolate Sponge

  • Whisk eggs and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Add vanilla essence and oil. Mix well.
  • Sift and fold in flour, baking powder and salt until well combined.
  • Dissolve cocoa powder with boiling hot water and add this mixture to the batter. 5.Grease two 6 inch baking tins and divide the batter evenly. 6.Bake for 170 degrees celcius for 30 minutes. NOTE: Adjust the temperature depending on your oven.

Buttercream

  • Whisk butter with icing sugar until light in colour.
  • Add cocoa powder and melted dark chocolate chips.
  • Mix well until light and creamy.
  • Layer each sponge with buttercream after the cake has cooled down.
  • Add any topping of your choice.
